From Coffee to Tea: The Evolution of Tea Heights and Spa

Nestled in the heart of Kandy, Tea Heights and Spa stands as a testament to Sri Lanka's rich heritage. Once part of a flourishing coffee plantation established during the British occupation in 1815, this land was renowned for producing some of the world's finest coffee. However, with the onset of coffee blight, the industry faltered, leading to a new chapter.
In 1883, the estate transitioned to tea, marking the beginning of an era where Mercantile Tea Factory became celebrated for its exceptional quality. This legacy of excellence continued until the departure of British owners, leading to the eventual decline of the factory.
